Who Knew I Was Fabulous? Not Me!

And the rules are:
  1. Pass it on to 5 other fabulous blogs including the one that gave it to you.
  2. List 5 of your fabulous addictions.

I really do look forward to reading all of my blogs so these awards are getting kind of hard. However, there are a few that are truly fabulous.

  1. The Daily Grind - Jazzie & Tahlia - Sandra takes some of the most amazing pics of her girls. Whether she started snapping away when Jazzie came home or if she was snapping before, the pics are wonderful. Sandra's subjects range from cooking/baking with her girls, to the challenges she finds as the mother of 2 girls to PADS (post adoption depression syndrome). She is open & honest.
  2. Life With Kerri - I'll admit it. Viv's blog is special to me. After all, Kerri is my goddaughter. I look forward to reading her blog since they live way too far away from me. Even Erin looks forward to seeing the pics of Kerri. Viv's sense of humor comes through in her writing.
  3. Our Red Thread Family (password protected) - I met Dawn through Lori & haven't looked back once. I look forward to reading all about the adventures of Lily & Rose. Her girls are just too delicious for words. Then there's her hubby Jacob - my partner in crime when it comes to lobster bisque & tootsie rolls. Dawn's writing style thrills me to pieces. I can actually here her chatting away as I read her blog.
  4. A Houseful of Critters - Gretchen has a great sense of humor. I look forward to reading about Elise the girly girl of all time. Just seeing Elise's dresses makes me drool since Erin won't wear them. Her son Carson is one cool kid. He seems to be as much a boy as a mom could want. And of course reading about Gretchen & Perry's doings also intrigues me.
  5. Stress is the New Black - Lori is an amazing woman. Yes, she is the mom to 3 special people. Katie Starr keeps me in stitches with her serious side & then immediately switching to the fun-loving girl. Ethan is Erin's very special guy. No one understands it, but they have an amazing connection. Then there is her son Justin. Truly this young man is a product of his parents. I love reading all about the happenings in their home. Then there is Lori herself. Have I mentioned that she is amazing? With everything going on in her household, she always takes the time to make sure her friends are well-taken card of. Her guy Marc? You have to love a man who changes his FB status just so I can make a comment. Thanks for the award Lori!!

5 Fabulous Addictions? Uh oh. I can't believe that I have to limit myself. Let's see.

  1. Coffee - Tim Hortons, Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks
  2. Coca Cola - NOT Pepsi. COKE.
  3. Scrapbooking - Thanks for the addiction Lisa! I've passed it on to Viv. :-)
  4. Reading - for pleasure only (romances, smut, magazines, mystery, true crime)
  5. Erin - Do I really have to say anything else??

So there you have it. My 5.

Scattergories

I know. Shocking isn't it. I haven't blogged in forever but seem to need something. Super Mommy has this on her blog, & she seems to think that I need to get back in action, I thought I'd give this a shot.
Scattergories . . .
It's harder than it looks! Use the first letter of your name to answer each of the following. They have to be real places, names, things . . . nothing made up. You CAN'T use your name for the boy/girl name question.
  • What is your name: Tammie
  • Boy name: Thomas
  • 4 letter word: tart
  • Girl name: Tina
  • Occupation: teacher
  • A color: turquoise
  • Something you wear: thongs (think flip flops here)
  • Beverage: Tab (dating myself, huh?)
  • Food: tortellini
  • Something found in a bathroom: towels
  • A place: Tallahassee, FL
  • Reason for being late: tossing & turning all night long
  • Something you shout: TURN HERE!!!

Your turn now. Have fun if you choose to do this.

Book Meme

I guess I'm popular. Who knew!? I've been tagged by both Viv & Super Mommy for a book meme. I enjoy the doing these memes, but when it also involves one of my loves - reading - I'm even happier.
The Rules:
  • Grab the nearest book.
  • Open it to page 56.
  • Find the 5th sentence.
  • Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
  • Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the most intellectual - pick the CLOSET.

On Basilisk Station by David Weber

If a hostile task force emerged within energy weapon range of the defenses, those defenses would be destroyed before they could reply, but ships transiting a wormhole junction arrived with a normal-space velocity of barely a few dozen kilometers per second, far too little for a high-speed attackk run. (page 56k sentence 5)

And now I tag Michelle, Lori & Magi.

Quirks? I have quirks!?

Who knew!?
Viv wants me to list my quirks. These tags are so much fun but goodness they make you work!
  1. I'm territorial. That may not be quirky to you, but trust me that for me it is. I'm left handed & use my mouse on the left side. If you move my mouse to the right side, fine. But put it back where you found it. Don't move or touch my things without the knowledge that you better put it back where you found it. If you don't, you will hear about it from me.
  2. I almost never take lunch breaks at work. Most people need their 30 minutes (or however long they take). To me a lunch break is a waste of time. I'm in the groove, doing my thing & you expect me to stop so I can eat? Why? Do I look like I'm missing out on food or something? Are you kidding!? The only day I consistently take a lunch break is Fridays.
  3. I love science fiction tv shows & movies. However, I absolutely cannot read the stuff. It bores me to tears when it's in the written word.
  4. I yawn. All the time. Even when I'm not tired. I don't mean to do it, & I can't help myself but I yawn. My mother used to say that I came out yawning & not crying.
  5. I sleep with 2-3 blankets each & every night. At least I start out that way. My hands & feet are always cold so I can't fall asleep without being all bundled up.
  6. I love to shop. I mean grocery shop. I find it very relaxing. If I could make a living dong people's grocery shopping, I would.
  7. I love to be driven around. Ever since I was a child, if I was stressed out, my parents would put me in the car & just drive. To this day, David does that for me. Back when we didn't have much, a big night out was dinner at McDonald's & a drive down A1A.

Well, you wondered about my quirks. There you have them! No one ever said that I was normal. Besides, being normal is so humdrum.

And those of you who follow? I want to know about your quirks too!

7 Facts

I've been tagged. Not once. Not twice. Three times! It seems that Gretchen. Vivian and Mary all want to learn more about me. Go figure.
So I'm sitting here trying to think of 7 things about me that people might find interesting. Hopefully I'm up to the challenge!
  1. I am married to my first and only love. I met David in 1982 and have been in love with him ever since even though we broke up for a few years before getting back together permanently in 1986.
  2. I love my jobs. Truly. During the week I work at a bank (how boring!) where I get to help people with whatever their needs. I also act as the office liaison - purchasing for the office, keeping the peace, reminding everyone that if they don't like what they're doing they should find something else 'cause it ain't worth it to be unhappy for 40 - 50 hours a week for years. I really believe that. On Sundays I teach 1st grade at a synagogue. I really love interacting with the children. OTOH, I really hate the politics at both jobs. Gee. That's a surprise.
  3. I love scrapbooking even though I'm one of the least creative people you'll ever meet. I started about 2 years ago with the encouragement of a very dear friend. I now have tons of scrapbooking supplies but no dining room table.
  4. Years ago I snored myself awake. Yup. You heard it here. I used to always complain to David that he was keeping me awake with his snoring. One night I woke up & yelled at him to stop snoring when he looked at me in that way that only a man can have & said "Honey, I'm reading. See my book? You snored yourself awake." Oops. He's never going to let me live that one down. (I can't really blame him though.)
  5. I'm very flexible. Even at my weight. I can stand up straight, bend over & touch my hands to the floor. Flat. Without any problems. It ooks people out. And Erin is even more flexible than I am.
  6. Like my friend Lori, I absolutely can't make a go of my day without my morning coke. David brings me a can of coke every morning so that I can get out of bed. And when I get to the office, I drop my stuff down & go make the pot of heavily caffeinated coffee so that I can become human. The joke in my office is that if you want Tammie to know something, wait till she's had her first sip of coffee 'cause it won't stick without the coffee. I can drink regular coffee & fall asleep in minutes. I drink so much caffeine that I never have a problem.
  7. I love to read books. I absolutely love to read romance, mystery, true crime but can't stand reading science fiction or fantasy even though I love to watch it.

There you go. I don't know if it's interesting stuff, but there it is. And now I have to tag 7 other people. Yikes!

  1. Sandra - Are we ever going to meet in person?
  2. Shari - I know you're busy right now, but Halloween is almost here so you'll have more time eventually.
  3. Grace - You may be new to blogging but I love what you have to say.
  4. Magi - I have loved reading all about your sweet girl. Now it's time to read about you!
  5. Kim - I can't wait to see what you have to say!
  6. Candy - Your turn! Now we get to know you!
  7. Sandy - It's not like you're busy or anything, but if you get a chance, we'd love to know more!

Have fun everyone!

I Make Viv Smile!

Apparently I make my friend Viv smile. She has decided that I deserve this award, & I can only hope that I really am worthy. I love the quote at the bottom of the award. "Always remember to be happy because you never know who'd falling in love with your smile."
Anway, I now have to choose 5 friends who make me smile. Let me tell you how hard that is. If you're my friend, or if I read your blog, you leave me smiling. However, I must choose 5.
  • Sandra - Just reading your blog & seeing how you guys are doing makes me smile. I look forward to seeing what you & your family are up to. Whenever I see Jazzie, I remember "back in the day" & think of that red thread from Erin to Jazzie. Whenever I see Tahlia, I remember how thrilled I was that we had another red thread going from Erin to Tahlia.
  • Lori - I'm so happy that you're blogging everyday although I'd rather your mom's ribs be all better. You have a way with words that just makes me laugh with everything Katie Starr & Ethan are up to. And let's not forget the rest of your family. You guys put a smile on everyone's face.
  • Michelle - Girl, my heart goes out to you when it comes to that job of yours. How you keep a straight face when you go in to the office is beyond me. Whenever you post about Luca, I know that it's a great time. When I think of the runs you do, & why you do them, I smile. Why? Because you do it all so selflessly.
  • Kim - I miss you terribly my friend. At least Viv stayed on the same continent! I smile whenever I see you've blogged. Why? First, I'm thrilled that you're living your dream. Second, I can just hear you chatting away with me or someone. BTW, I miss searching for beets at the salad bar with you.
  • Magi - From the first time I came across your blog, you always managed to make me smile. Now that Sera is home & growing up, I look forward to seeing what she's up to.

My Life in 6 Words

My friend Sandra decided to tag me with this one a few days ago. Now all I have to do is figure out which 6 words to define my life! I've really been having trouble figuring it out.

Let's see:

  • Retentive - yup, everything has to be in the right place.
  • Territorial - don't touch my stuff without asking & certainly don't move it.
  • Emotional - cry at the drop of a pin but laugh openly when I find a funny in life
  • Freeing - I do my best to get away from anger. I get angry easily since I have an awful temper but I live by the motto that "It isn't worth staying angry over. If It Won't Kill Me, I Let It Go."

Won't Kill Me, Let It Go!

Yup! Those are the words I live by. Since I really do have an awful temper (blame it my parents since I get it from them), I try very hard not to let others see it.

  • When David & I have a disagreement, I apply those words.
  • When Erin wants to wear nothing that matches, I apply those words.
  • When the bosses at work want me to do something that makes no sense, I apply those words.
  • When I see friends doing things that "get my goat," I apply those words.
  • When I know I'm doing something stupid, I apply those words.

Now I have to tag 5 other people. Let's see:

And The Nominees Are. . .

Wow! I am really honored. My dear friend Viv thinks I have something worthwhile to say. Ha! I really just ramble on you know. Perhaps she's a little biased since her daughter Kerri is my goddaughter. However, she is right about one thing. Erin & Kerri have this amazing connection to each other.

From what I understand, I have to nominate 5 other blogs that Make My Day. Unfortunately, I can't nominate Viv though. She certainly deserves it since this is how I see what's going on in her family's life on a daily basis. Odd though since we speak on the phone so frequently. Oh well.

And, the nominees for the 5 Blogs That Make My Day are:

  • Gretchen from A Houseful of Critters. We met back when we were DTC (now known as LID). Many Wednesday nights were spent online chatting along with the daily emails. When we finally traveled to China, Gretchen & I were lucky enough to meet at the famed White Swan days after being united with our gorgeous girls Erin & Elise. Gretchen finally joined the world of bloggers this past year. Ever since then, I have to take a daily peek. I'm so glad that she does 'cause I love read about the goings on in her family!
  • Sandra from The Daily Grind: Life With Jazzie and Tahlia. Like Gretchen, she is also a Waiting Heart. Sandra keeps it real over at her blog with topics of all kinds ranging from PAD (post adoption depression) to fun things like how her Jazzie & Tahlia love ice pops. I have been so blessed to have Sandra in my life. One day we'll meet in person. Till then we'll have a virtual cup of Starbucks together!
  • Lori from Stress is the New Black. She is an amazing woman with a wonderful family. One day, she'll tell me her secrets. Like how she manages to be the mother of a wonderfully empathetic law student & the Dynamic Duo. How she manages to maintain a relationship filled with love, friendship & respect with her hubby Marc. And how she manages to do all this looking wonderful whenever I see her!
  • Magi from Kaffee Klatsch. I found Magi over at Sandra's blog one day & have popped in ever since. She also has a fantastic hubby in Jim. (Hey! Anyone who would make fresh pancakes just because is fantastic in my book!) Her daughter Sera is just the sweetest thing! Pop on over on a Friday to see what recipe she's putting out. Pop on over to see what's going on over there. Just pop on over!
  • PIPO from This Year in China. This woman is my hero! She handles all of her home repairs & rennovations with both grace & "pluck." She is crafty - go see the cakes she bakes & the quilt she just finished. She is one tough cookie with a heart of gold.

To be honest, there are many more blogs out there that I read on a daily basis. If you're in my blogroll, I look for you each day.

Pay It Forward!! Wanna Play?

I found my friend Viv playing a game, & I think it sounds really neat. I'm all about having fun & playing games, so I'm joining in. How about you? Wanna play?

Yes? Well, here's how you do it.

  1. I will send a gift of my choosing to the first three (3) people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join the Pay it Forward exchange.

  2. You must make the same commitment on your own blog.

So if you want a goodie, please leave me a comment. I'll need your snail mail address so that I can get your gift out. We can take care of that offlist.

My Daily Dose

Dawn, thank you so much for this awesome award! Who knew back when I started blogging that someone would feel a desire to check in on me & see what's going on in Erin & my life. You are definitely on my Daily Dose list too!
My dear friend Viv left in May to go up to the Great White North. Oh wait. I meant Canada. Even though we speak on the phone almost every day & chat online enough that our spouses are starting to wonder, I still need to read her blog & find out what's going on with Kerri.
I-Con is amazing. This is a blog that I absolutely must peek at daily. She has been waiting a very long time to bring home her daughter. While I-Con waits, she amuses me with stories of her daily life with wit, sarcasm & plain ole in your face honesty. She went away for a while & is back.
Kim is a local friend who recently started blogging. I always enjoy chatting with Kim at our monthly FCC get togethers. Her 3 under 6 crowd each make me smile. How does she do it!? Where does she find the time? I don't know, but I can tell you that while Kim is new to blogging, I expect to be reading her blog - on a daily basis.
Sandra & her girls are way too far away from me IMHO. I have been a faithful fan of Sandra's since we "met" almost years ago. (Wow! Has it really been that long!?) This ultra busy, SAHM amazes me. She is a wonderful wife, mother, friend & advocate for Cochlear Implants. I can't imagine how she finds the time to blog on a daily life & still have the cleanest kitchen I have EVER seen.
As to the rest of you on my blogroll, I hereby nominate you also! What would I do if I didn't take the time to check you out? My desktop crashed last week, & the thought of me whining about it, pushed David into overdrive to get my new desktop up & running. He's hoping that I'll give him some time on his laptop. Too bad Honey, I need my Daily Dose!

I'm Honored

"This award is for bloggers who are nice people, good blog friends, and those who inspire good feelings and inspiration. Also, for those who are a positive influence on our blogging world”.

What a nice suprise! My blog friend Magi over at Kaffee Klatsch nominated me for this award. Thank you so much for thinking of me. I found Magi while she was waiting for Sera & have admired her style from the first time I visited her. Now I get to nominate 7 people who I believe deserve this special honor.
1. My dear friend Vivian can be found at Life With Kerri. Viv & I met during her journey while I was home sick. In the past years, we have found many red threads that bind us together.
2. Ah, yes, Lisa from A Place and Time For Us. Lisa is an amazing woman. She is a stay at home mom who works so hard but always manages to have time for her family & friends. I'm so glad we found each other.
3. Lori over at Three and a High Chair amazes me. This dear friend of mine is getting ready to travel & bring home her sweet boy. She & her family have been very patient throughout this wait.
4. Kim from We 5 Chois is new to blogging. I'm hoping Kim reads this & sees that she's been tagged. Kim always has a kind word to say to someone - even after finding out that there's no beetroot at the salad bar!
5. Shari at Find Chianna loves being tagged. She's waiting to bring her very own sweetie home. I'm so happy that I ran into her hubby at Target while doing what I do best - shopping.
6. One of the sweetest people I have ever not met is my friend Sandra from The Daily Grind - Life with Jazzie and Tahlia. We have never met in person yet I cannot imagine my life without Sandra. She is my fellow Waiting Heart & our threads seem to be quite tangled. February 28, 2002 is a day marked in my memory for many things dear friend.
7. Michelle from I Run Like a Girl found me through Sandra's blog. I have yet to get her my challah recipe which I promise to do. I have also never met Michelle but found her blog compelling. This is a woman with a heck of a heart.

Name Game MeMe

My friend Sandra tagged me! This looks like fun until you realize how hard it is to describe yourself!
  1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.
  2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don't have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.
  3. When you are tagged, you need to write your own blog post containing your own middle name game facts.
  4. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged & to read your blog!

R - reading. I'm a total book-aholic. Actually, I've been known to read the back of cereal boxes just to have something to read. Some of my favorite authors are Norah Roberts, Iris Johannsen, Sandra Brown, Lisa Gardner, Catherine Coulter & Lisa Jackson. I also love the Harry Potter series. BTW, I absolutely do not read newspapers. When I read, I'm looking for escape - not reality. For reality there's the news.

O - observant. I seem to pick up on things about people that are important. This trait helps me at work with my clients but also allows me to be a good friend. (At least I hope so.)

B - bleeding heart. I'm a sucker for a sob story, a crying child, an animal in need or sick, a person in need. I cry at commercials or reading cards. I haven't eaten veal in 20 years. Get the picture?

I - in love. With my husband of 19 years next Tuesday. I'd do it all over again - mistakes & all!

N - nuggets. "Nuggets" is what I say when I really want to say "S&^T!" I'm trying to have a cleaner mouth - especially around Erin the child who repeats it all. Nuggets is also the one thing I know that Erin will eat willingly.

Ah! Finally I'm done. Now on to torture the rest of you! Here are my victims:

Shari - I know how you love these tags/memes.

Vivian - I know you have nothing better to do. (That is other than chasing Kerri & Pookie around.)
