Erin Loves This Book!!

This book has quickly become Erin's favorite! I've been reading it to her each night for 3 weeks now. She really enjoys hearing the story about Ming & the lesson he learns about giving thanks. Right after I read her the story, Erin "reads" it out loud to me. I love how she asks me - each & every time - what kind of tree is it, what's the boy's name. She may not remember the small things, but she truly gets the bigger picture.

Just so you all know, David hates the book. He doesn't like that there is a bully in the story or that a grandparent dies. His belief (I think I got this right Mr. Lurker) is that a child this young doesn't need to hear this type of thing. Personally, I believe that it is appropriate & that Erin is learning the value of "Thank you."

I was completley put off by this book. Dealing with abusive bullies and the death beloved relatives is completley inapropriate for someone Erin's age. My daugther loves this book because she see's that mama likes it, but she doesn't understand it. Knowing my kid the way I do, when she does make the conncection the events in the book and emotions that they provoke, she will be very upset.
