Today we had to put our sweet kitty cat to sleep. Kira had been off her game for about 2-3 weeks lately, & we thought it was just old age. This week I noticed that she really hadn't eaten anything. The cat that normally invaded our every waking moment was nowhere to be seen. Kira used to sleep in bed with us - either by my feet or more likely on my head, but lately she was a nighttime no show. She'd come sit on my lap while we were watching tv. In the last few weeks she didn't do anything like that.
David & Erin took her to the vet for a checkup. (I had to go to work today.) After all, you know when your pet (who is really another family member) isn't right. Even the vet said that Kira didn't appear to be herself. David left Kira at the vet so they could run some tests. I got a phone call that Kira wasn't doing well so I called David.
He picked me up from work & we drove down to see Kira & say our final goodbyes as we had a sense that she wasn't going to turn around. David had spoken with Erin about Kira being sick & that she was going to Heaven. He did an awesome job with explaining this to Erin. After all was said & done, we each said our goodbyes with heavy hearts & tears.
I know that my sweet kitty is "up there" playing with my dad's dog Henry & our first dog Sari. It gives me comfort to know that Kira is in no pain & certainly more comfortable than she was in the last day or so.
Erin keeps saying "I miss my kitty. I'm thinking about her."
Mommy & Daddy are too.

Ohhhhh... I"m so sad here with you guys. Kira was a beautiful kitty, too. You are right, she was not feeling well for some time, and you can be at peace knowing that she is no longer in pain or uncomfortable. I hope that being with friends today helped to ease your pain, at the very least a little. We wish Kira many happy & content days 'up there' with every comfort that a kitty could want.
Tammie,
I'm so sorry. Losing a pet is one of the hardest things to go through.
Tammie, I am so sorry for your loss. You're right, a pet is just another family member. Sending you great big hugs...
Kerri lost her beloved playmate Charlie in May 2006. Putting him to sleep was the hardest thing we ever had to do. To this day, his grave is visited every day by Grandpa and Kitty, who loved him almost as much as we did. I think Kira and Charlie are comparing notes!
You will never forget Kira, and she will always have a special place in our hearts too. Huge hugs dear friends, we are thinking about you and missing you dearly.
We are so sorry to hear about your sweet Kira. We understand your loss so well as we too have lost furry family members throughout the years.
Again, we are sorry for your loss and send you all huge hugs!
OH Tammie - prayers for your family ans sweet Kira. It is so hard to lose a pet...especially when they aren't just a pet but a clear part of the family
We are sending you a hug. So sorry to hear this news, it is so very hard to lose a family memeber.
Sorry to hear about your loss. It is extremely hard to lose a pet.
Cute cat addition to the family though.

Oh my gosh, Tammie, I am so sorry for your loss! I have been remiss in checking in on your blog for a couple weeks and I see so much to catch up on! I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Kitty Kira. I know how much all our pets are part of the family and how hard it is. The only comfort it to know that all our sweet pets go to Heaven - where they get to do everything they wanted to here, but we wouldn't let them! I know my Boo Boo is there barking his head off and eating everything in sight! Know that Kira is "indulging" as we speak!
Sending you all hugs and love!
